Our story

It was a sunny morning on the 31st of August 2024. We were right in the middle of our trip across Greenland, in the most amazing place we’ve ever visited, the Eqi Glacier.

The original plan was to do a 10hr hike deep into Greenland’s Ice Sheet, but mother nature had different plans. Heavy snowfall the night before got our hike cancelled … and with that my plan to propose on the Arctic Ice Cap.

Upset about the change of plans, we decided to continue with the hike … without a tour guide, what could possibly go wrong? The guide lent us a pair of hiking poles and a satellite phone and we continued our adventure.

The first checkpoint was a walk to the closest lake that supplies the Eqi Lodge with pristine water. The walk normally takes 15 mins (on clear terrain)… but with a fresh layer of snow … it took 1.5 hrs! The constant sliding, feet sinking and the lack of snowshoes made the task seem impossible. We decided to abort the hike.

Saddened but not defeated, we decided to walk towards the glacier instead. The 3 hr coastal hike felt like a breeze in comparison to the original plan, and the reward was having front row seats to one of Greenland’s most active calving glaciers.

The sun came out, and with perfect blue skies and on top of the world (69°77′49″N, -50°21′50″ W), I went down on one knee and asked Alicia…

“Would you spend a lifetime of adventures with me?”

To which she replied with a face of disbelief:

“Shut up! … okay fine.”
